Socket or connector type is the first parameter to check for motorcycle LED headlight purchasing and modification. Even if voltage and power are fully compatible, wrong socket will stop installation. Knowing features of mainstream sockets helps export buyers select goods efficiently and cut returns caused by connector mismatch.
H4 is the most popular and widely used motorcycle headlight socket. It adopts dual filament design with 3 pin plug and three standard lugs. It enjoys abundant supply and huge global demand. HS1 also features dual filament and 3 pin connector, yet it has wider lugs and cannot be interchanged directly with H4. H17 and M5/H6 are dual filament 3 pin sockets with special grooved lugs. Their appearances are similar to H4, so careful identification is required.
H7 is a single filament socket with 2 pin plug and one single lug. H9 and H11 belong to single filament series with L shaped plastic sockets, widely adopted on some European and American models for separate high beam or low beam function only.
Classic European P series sockets include P14.5S, P15D 30/3, P26S, PX26D and P36D(BPF). They are mainly fitted on vintage European style motorcycles and keep steady demand in certain overseas regions.
In export business, do not judge socket type only by appearance. Some sockets look almost identical but differ in lugs, grooves and pin definition. Forced fitting results in failed assembly or loose connection. Wholesalers should mark structural and pin features on product pages. Remind buyers to check original lamp socket model before reviewing voltage, color temperature and other parameters. This practice reduces wrong item returns and improves customer purchasing experience.
